Basingstoke children celebrate World Book Day 2021 - in pictures

Children, adults and authors across Basingstoke celebrated a World Book Day “more important than ever” amid coronavirus lockdown restrictions. School pupils, parents and teachers dressed up as their favourite literary characters on Thursday, March 4 including Tiny Steps Preschool in Popley. Helen Heath, who owns and manages the nursery in Bermuda Close, said it was a much-needed day of enjoyment for the little ones. She said: I think for children to have a day where it is just about fun is so important for them right now, I am sure they pick up on all of our anxieties and worries about whether they are missing out [due to coronavirus restrictions].

Two men were seen acting suspiciously outside Tiny Steps

Police have been informed of the incident which happened outside Tiny Steps Pre-School in Bermuda Close yesterday. The two men were reportedly asking parents outside the pre-school if they were collecting one of the children, using the child’s name. They were then reportedly seen walking around the outside of the pre-school shouting the child’s name. Posting about the incident on social media, the child’s mother said: “I thank god that my precious son was inside the nursery. I have no idea who the two men are. “Please be careful what you post on social media and keep your babies safe. These men could have been watching myself and my children, they could know where I live.”
