Former NRL star Jarryd Hayne has continued to deny he committed sexual assault, despite being convicted, as his victim told a court she was destroyed and damaged by the experience but âIâm still standingâ.
Hayne, 33, was found guilty in March of two counts of sexual intercourse without consent after he assaulted the 26-year-old woman in her Newcastle home with his hands and mouth and left her bleeding from the genitals in September 2018.

He was convicted of the charges after a second trial in the NSW District Court, with an original trial last year ending in a hung jury. He is expected to be jailed when he is sentenced later today.
Two ex-teammates of fallen NRL star Jarryd Hayne have come under fire for writing despicable messages supporting the convicted rapist on social media.
Hayne, 33, was jailed on Thursday in the Newcastle District Court for a minimum of three years and eight months after he was found guilty of assaulting a woman in her Newcastle home in 2018.
Despite the guilty verdict, Hayne was backed publicly by ex-Parramatta Eels teammates Tony Williams and Krisnan Inu. Fn dogs, Williams posted in an extraordinary Instagram story following the highly anticipated legal outcome.

“She [the victim] has every right to feel safe from attack in the privacy of her home,” judge Syme said. “The fact is she said no to the sexual activity the offender was forcing on her. The offender was fully aware the victim was not consenting.
“I do not accept the offender did not know or did not hear the victim telling him she did not want to have sex with him.”
The judge said Hayne’s decision to ignore the woman’s pleas to stop when forcibly giving her oral and digital sexual intercourse only increased the objective seriousness of the crime.

The former NRL star arrived at court in Newcastle in the rain on Thursday wearing sunglasses and shielded by an umbrella. He was surrounded by dozens of friends and family.
The 33-year-old will learn his fate at 2.30pm after a NSW District Court jury found him guilty of two counts of sexual intercourse without consent in March. He faces up to 14 years in jail.
