While people are excited to say goodbye to 2020, New Year’s Eve festivities this week will be sparse, due to continuing safety efforts because of the coronavirus pandemic.
In central Pennsylvania, New Year’s Eve is a time to let its culture’s quirkier side shine. Giant roses and pickles are dropped, humongous Hershey Kisses are raised and strawberries descend – but this year, all of that is canceled. Even New York’s famed ball drop will be virtual.
However, modified or virtual events are happening in a couple of areas.
