HUNTINGTON The Fitzsimmons law firm of Wheeling is among a group of attorneys representing Huntington-based HD Media in an antitrust lawsuit against Google and Facebook, which charges the two companies with monopolizing the digital advertising market.
HD Media LLC, which owns the Charleston Gazette-Mail, the Herald-Dispatch in Huntington and a half-dozen weekly newspapers, filed a 42-page complaint against Google and Facebook in federal court for the Southern District of West Virginia.
According to a release from HD Media, “Google has monopolized the digital advertising market to such an extent that Google has been enabled to extract a supracompetitive share of HD Media’s advertising revenues, harming the company’s ability to effectively monetize its content.”
Six women, all current and former Kansas Highway Patrol employees, filed suit against top agency officials in federal court Friday, alleging they discriminated against female workers and created a hostile environment in the department.
The suit alleges the agency violated federal anti-discrimination law, the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment and the women s First Amendment rights to free speech.
It is the latest in a series of accusations leveled against KHP’s work climate, with two former officers also suing the agency for alleged retaliation when they attempted to help women report the behavior of top officials, including Superintendent Col. Herman Jones.

The selection of David Toland as lieutenant governor wasn t historic at least not in the way some state Democrats wanted it to be.
Toland, currently the state’s commerce secretary, will replace Lt. Gov. Lynn Rogers as he moves into the vacant state treasurer position.
But over the weekend, a group of party members led by Sedgwick County Democratic Party chair Joseph Shepard pushed Gov. Laura Kelly to nominate a person of color for the role.
Shepard penned an open letter to the governor saying as much, although it appeared to come too late as Kelly had already made her decision midway through last week, several days before the public appeal for diversity was launched.
