Acting on complaints stemming from a drive-in service this past Sunday at the Church of God in Aylmer, police have laid a pair of charges under the Re-Opening Ontario Act.
Aylmer Police responded to the church parking lot where people were outside their vehicles for the service. Under the act, drive-in services are permitted with conditions including physical distancing must be maintained and those attending must remain inside their vehicle, explained Aylmer Police Insp. Nick Novacich.
A summons was issued to a 37-year-old man believed to be Herbert Hildebrandt, son of church Pastor Henry Hildebrandt.

Elgin OPP have charged the son of controversial Church of God Pastor Henry Hildebrandt following an alleged assault last Thursday in Malahide.
The incident occurred on a farm property on Imperial Road across from the Church of God north of Aylmer where 37-year-old Herbert Hildebrandt is alleged to have assaulted former Malahide Township councillor Jack Dykxhoorn.
The 84-year-old Dykxhoorn and several friends had been putting up pro-mask signs across from the church when Hildebrandt allegedly pulled into the driveway and there was a confrontation.
Elgin OPP investigated an assault complaint from Dykxhoorn and Hildebrandt was arrested and charged Saturday. He is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 19.

He rolled up his sleeves and was ready to fight, says Dykxhoorn, a former Malahide Township councillor.
