Brittany Roundtree
Brittany Roundtree is a Science teacher at Donovan Middle School in the Utica City School District. She has been at Donovan for three years and has made a tremendous impact on her students. Along with teaching, she tutors and mentors students in STEM after school in hopes that someday, some of them will enter the fields of science, technology, engineering, or math. It does not get much better than having a teacher extend herself and expose us to further knowledge connected to the real world. Brittany is an inspiring educator as she is the only African American science teacher in the Utica City School District. Prior to teaching science, Brittany earned the honor of a master’s in business administration from Wilmonton University.

Herkimer County Community College is planning to return to in-person instruction for the 2021-22 academic year.
The college announced the decision Wednesday in a news release, adding that students can expect to receive a more traditional college experience, with the majority of classes being held face-to-face at the start of the fall 2021 semester.

“While we are optimistic about the fall, we will of course continue to monitor the situation, as the health and safety of students, staff and faculty are and will remain our priority,” said Cathleen McColgin, president of HCCC. “Our plans to return to in-person class delivery will be contingent on positivity rates and guidance from SUNY, the CDC, and local and state public health agen

The 2021 edition of Phaethon is now available for digital download on the Herkimer County Community College website.
Phaethon is the college’s student-submitted literary arts magazine. The 114-page publication features various works of fiction, poetry, photography and other creative projects.
This year’s publication team consists of fiction editor Carynn Bohley of Salem, Washington County; visual editors Michael Cook of Frankfort and Kaitlyn Jenks of Canajoharie, Montgomery County; and poetry editor Elijeanah Monroe of Schenectady.
Named after the Greek myth of Phaethon, son of sun god Apollo, who attempted to drive Apollo’s chariot that pulls the sun across the sky, the magazine values bold fiction, poetry and art that “obliterate” the boundaries of expression.
