SANTIAGO (Reuters) - AstraZeneca has filed data with Chilean regulators for the emergency roll-out of its COVID-19 vaccine in the country and could get a green light weeks or even days after approval by European or American regulators, the government s point person for vaccine procurement told Reuters.
The UK-based company has been conducting late-stage trials of its vaccine, developed with Oxford University, in Chile as well as in Brazil, the UK, the United States and South Africa.

No later than January, Chilean health authorities are trying to approve the coronavirus vaccine produced by the Chinese company Sinovac, according to Heriberto Garcia, Director of the Institute of Public Health (ISP).
This would be the second vaccine approved in Chile to be used in the country, after the same Institute authorized the one produced by the North American laboratory Pfizer, which announces its arrival for tomorrow in Santiago.

Santiago de Chile, 16 Dec (Prensa Latina) Chile s Institute of Public Health (ISP) on Wednesday approved the extraordinary use in the country of the vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech laboratories against Covid-19.
After a meeting of a panel of experts, ISP Director Heriberto Garcia pointed out that complying with the favorable assessment, the resolution will be issued today or tomorrow, noting that the vaccine will be used in people over 16 years of age.
The Chilean government signed a deal with Pfizer to send a number of doses to immunize five million people.
