Paradise Executive Director Outlines Fundraising Efforts

Heidi Nelson, Executive Director of the Paradise Center for the Arts told KDHL listeners today she hopes they can hit their fundraising goal of $250,000 by July. In January the Faribault City Council approved an agreement that provides a $250,000 grant from the city to pay off the mortgage for the downtown art center.
Nelson explained, Every year since the Paradise opened the Paradise has gone to the city and requested funds. It s a part of something the city always does. They offer up funding for area non-profits. So the Paradise has always been a recipient of that. The amount has varied each year. But the one that s going to happen with this $250,000 as Mayor Kevin Voracek has explained it s really paying it forward, Now the Paradise Center for the Arts will not be allowed to go to the city and ask for those funds. People who work on the front lines of the opioid epidemic on Cape Cod say isolation caused by COVID-19 lockdowns and social distancing protocols that limit access to 12-step and other meetings are part of what s driving the increase.
Susan Kinnane of Eastham lost their son Danny Vigliano to an overdose in August. The 35-year-old, whose struggle she said was made worse by the isolation, died alone on the floor of a Brockton MBTA station. Toxicology reports showed ethanol and fentanyl in his system.

Faribault Council Appears to Approve $250,000 Match for Paradise
The Faribault City Council met as a Joint Committee last evening via ZOOM and tackled several different issues. City Aministrator Tim Murray explained the Paradise Center for the Arts (PCA) had approached the city about providing a matching grant or forgivable loan in the amount of $250,000.
If approved the plan would be for the Paradise Center for the Arts to pay off their mortgage and line of credit used to operate the facility. That total is just over a half million dollars.
The PCA has already started their campaign to raise their share of the amount needed.
