HENRY COUNTY, Va. The Texas man accused of abducting a 12-year-old Virginia girl that prompted an AMBER Alert had set up camp behind the child s home, according to deputies.
Officials with the Henry County Sheriff s Office said Allie Michele Broadaway, who was reported missing from her Bassett home Friday afternoon, was found with 21-year-old Kaleb Christopher Merritt Saturday near a restaurant in Henderson, North Carolina. Broadaway was found safe and checked by EMS for minor injuries, deputies said. Allie is a runaway. Our investigators are down there on the way now as well as federal investigators, Henry County Sheriff Lane Perry said. She will be spoken to. We will be asking her about what happened. We will be processing the vehicle that was used in conjunction with this crime and our investigators will return Allie to her family.
