Freshmen reflect on their year at St. Bonaventure University

By Kelsey Purcell, Staff Writer It has been an atypical first year at St. Bonaventure University for the freshmen class of 2024. The pandemic led to safety restrictions which created an unusual first year experience. Masks are to be worn everywhere except for in dorm rooms, showers or in the dining halls when sitting and eating. Even when walking around outside on campus, students are required to wear a mask. Sydney Flaitz, a freshman health science major said, “Wearing masks on campus is fine. It isn’t that much of a hassle, but it is weird that we can’t see our classmates’ faces.”
New High-Rise Has Changed El Paso’s Downtown Skyline
El Paso s downtown skyline has changed thanks to the new WestStar Tower (and its lit-up faux-hawk), making it the tallest building in the city now.
I live in downtown El Paso in the West end of the Sunset Heights District, and over the last year, I have been watching construction crews alter El Paso s downtown skyline.

On a recent trip from Arizona to Washington, I stayed overnight at national chain hotels, local Airbnb cottages and condos and a historic hotel. Everywhere I spent the night on the way to and from Seattle, the owners were welcoming and helpful, the properties were clean and up-to-date and the neighborhood restaurants and shops were eager for visitors to return. In Nevada, Oregon and Washington, every business was set and ready for visitors, and every proprietor was holding onto the deep-seated hope that the pandemic restrictions would be lifted and the business of tourism could return to their establishments and communities.
