Neurosurgeon Jason Schwalb, M.D. surgically implanted the Vercise Genus™ Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) System, which stimulates a targeted region of the brain through - implanted leads that are placed in the brain. The leads are powered by a device called an implantable pulse generator, which sits under the skin in the chest. The case was performed at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital.

Jackson County surpasses 9,000 COVID-19 cases Updated Feb 17, 2021; Facebook Share JACKSON, MI The Jackson County Health Department has reported 658 cases of coronavirus since Jan. 20, bringing the number of cases in the county since last March to 9,014. Currently there are 792 active COVID-19 cases in Jackson County, health department data shows. The number of active cases has fallen since last month, when they hovered above 1,500 throughout January, and reached as high as 1,768 the week of Jan. 12. An additional 16 Jackson County residents have died of the virus since Jan. 17. Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 204 deaths attributed to COVID-19 within Jackson County.
