“Ms. Holt loves Henderson County and is proud to be a member of this community and will make an announcement to this community on June 23,” Colby Coren, a former School Board member and friend of Holt’s said. “I believe Amy has the business background and has the comm connections and community outreach” to appeal to voters. “She is involved in not just one but multiple nonprofits in our community and looks for ways to help not only the schools but our community as well.”
Holt, whom Coren said was on vacation, did not immediately return the Lightning’s request for an interview. Her prospective campaign has already developed a campaign logo and registered a website, Holtforhendersoncounty.org, though the website has not gone live.
Henderson County (Jun 3, 2021) - A property swap that exchanges 25 acres of the city-owned Berkeley Park for the county-owned Edwards Park property at Five Points advanced Thursday night with the Hendersonville City Council s adoption of a resolution authorizing the agreement.
The Henderson County School Board approved a $36.32 million budget request Monday to forward to the county’s Board of Commissioners.
The school system’s appropriation request for 2021-22 includes $29.92 for current expenses, $1.5 million for capital outlay (annual maintenance/safety enhancements), and $4.89 million for capital outlay (maintenance, repairs, technology, safety.)
The budget request is a summary of the priorities detailed at the board of education’s budget workshop in April.
The School Board opened up a portion of Monday’s meeting to comments about the budget request, but no one signed up to speak on the matter.
The request will be forwarded to the commissioners for consideration for funding the local current expense and capital outlay funds.
Katie Bradley, currently Assistant Principal & Athletic Director at East Henderson High (EHHS), has been named the new Principal for Hillandale Elementary. Bradley will be filling the principalship vacated by Kelly Pratt, who is moving to the N.C. Department of Public Instruction to continue her education career as the K-3 Literacy Consultant for the Western Region.
John McDaris, currently Assistant Principal & Athletic Director at West Henderson High (WHHS), will move across the street to Rugby Middle, where he will serve as the school’s new Principal. Rugby’s former principal Scott Moore moved to Central Office in March to begin his role as district Director of Middle Schools, and Jenny Moreno has served as interim principal for the remainder of the current school year.
