Two Hexham friends running as Liberal Democrat candidates in Northumberland elections

Working mums Suzanne Fairless-Aitken and Ginnie O’Farrell met five years ago in the schoolyard. Realising they shared similar visions for the community after discussing the need for positive change in Hexham and being frustrated by the running of Hexham Town Council, they signed up to join the Liberal Democrat party two years ago. Suzanne, a governor at St Joseph s RC Middle School and an activist for green and educational issues, is standing in Hexham East. She said: “I was fed up just telling my kids that they could change things for the better and make their views heard. “For years I’ve been involved in local campaigns including saving our middle schools with the STARS group, helping the food bank and kids’ clothes banks, and green issues, but I had never taken it to the next level, until the Lib Dems asked if I wanted to stand.
