HPD: Man dead after accidentally shooting himself Published:  Tags:  HOUSTON – A man died late Saturday night after accidentally shooting himself, according to the Houston Police Department. At approximately 9 p.m. a group of friends visiting the area was driving around searching for a hotel to stay in when one of the individuals accidentally discharged a firearm and struck himself in the leg, said Adam Bevley, a detective with the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division. The group pulled into a gas station in the 4400 block of Bissonnet Street and contacted police. The injured individual was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators said the man and woman had been dating on and off for about a year and had a “somewhat volatile” relationship. Sgt. Joshua Horn with the Houston Police Department Homicide Division said the person who called 911 reported hearing the woman say “no, no, no” before the gunshots. Police said the woman’s roommate heard the couple screaming at each other prior to shots being fired. When she went to check, she found both of them dead inside a Ford Mustang with gunshot wounds to their heads, police said.

Around midnight, the off-duty officer was driving home after his shift had ended. As he was driving outbound on I-10, east of Fry Road, he witnessed a suspected road rage incident occur. One vehicle began firing on a black sedan. Following the shooting, the black sedan exited the freeway while the suspect vehicle continued westbound on I-10, police said.
