A former Houston police officer who resigned after allegedly taking part in the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol insurrection was charged in federal court on Tuesday, records show.
Eighteen-year HPD veteran and Richmond resident Tam Dinh Pham was charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, and violent entry and disorderly conduct on capitol grounds, after prosecutors say he unlawfully entered the U.S. Capitol Building along with throngs of other pro-Trump extremists.

Federal agents have charged the former Houston police officer who joined a violent mob that invaded the U.S. Capitol with knowingly entering a restricted government building and engaging in disruptive and disorderly conduct, according to media reports Tuesday. An affidavit written by FBI Special Agent Amie C. Stemen named the previously unidentified officer as Tam Pham.
In a press conference last week, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said he had notified federal authorities about Pham’s presence at the Capitol riot after seeing Facebook photos linking Pham to the pro-Trump supporters. Pham then agreed to meet with FBI agents at his home in Richmond on Jan. 12.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo spoke to the 249th HPD cadet class Tuesday morning.
In an impassioned speech, he reminded the cadets that amidst a nationwide discussion about defunding police agencies, they were one of five classes that had already been cut from the budget before the city leadership stepped in to restore the classes with CARES funding.
