Article content SOUTH HURON – Councillors will decide at their next meeting whether or not to proceed with an estimated $12.3 million renovation and upgrade at the South Huron Rec Centre (SHRC). Councillors were presented with three options at a committee of the whole meeting May 25. After much discussion, committee members, who consist of South Huron council, voted 4-3 to recommend to council to proceed with the $12.3-million renovation. Council will vote at its June 7 regular meeting whether or not to approve the recommendation when they receive the draft minutes from the committee of the whole meeting. Unsuccessful in its bid for a federal-provincial grant to build a new $25-million facility in Exeter, South Huron council recently decided to pursue major renovations at the SHRC which would include six new dressing rooms, new dasher boards, officials and storage rooms, accessibility improvements, lighting and electrical upgrades, a new gym with dressing rooms and a moveable divider wall, a raised walking track and more.
