Hoots Wings inks 60-unit franchisee deal

Provided Feb. 26, 2021 Hoots Wings, the fast casual wing concept owned by Hooters, has signed its first franchise agreement since launching a franchising initiative last year. Dallas-based AE Restaurant Group, led by Cary and Jackie Albert, will open 60 Hoots locations in Texas, specifically targeting the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and Austin, according to a company press release. The Alberts, who own 30 Schlotzsky s units, will open at least six locations in 2021 and eight to 10 locations each year thereafter with Cary handling real estate, development and build-out, while Jackie being hands-on in every restaurant, handling operations, marketing, training and hiring. Hooters will open dozens of fast-casual restaurants North Texas, with no servers

Hooters will open dozens of fast-casual restaurants in North Texas, with no servers Hoots Wings is described as a faster, family-friendlier version of Hooters. Hoots Wings, a Hooters offshoot, sells a menu of wings, buffalo shrimp and loaded tots in a fast-casual setting. The first Hoots in Texas is expected to open in Little Elm in 2021.(Mike Beauchamp) Have you ever heard somebody say they eat at Hooters because they like the wings? Hooters’ execs might have been listening: They have partnered with a Dallas franchise group to open dozens of order-at-the-counter restaurants named Hoots Wings in North Texas. Hoots Wings servers won’t wear orange hot pants and low-cut tank tops. Staffers will work the counter wearing T-shirts and jeans. The restaurant’s focus is on selling wings via carryout and third-party delivery, though customers can also sit inside.

Hooters is Ready to Disrupt the Fast-Casual Segment

Hoots Wings opened three units during the pandemic. As the restaurant industry lifted itself out of the recession in the early part of the 2010s, Hooters recognized a changing of the guard. Fast casuals were emerging and on the brink of explosion. In the back of the house, the smaller footprint and limited overhead appealed to operators hoping to improve efficiency. In the front, consumers were drawn to the increased convenience through takeout and delivery a trend Hooters noticed at its hundreds of stores. In recent years, full-service concepts have implemented off-premises some even before the pandemic to compete with an industry movement that couldn’t be ignored any longer. But Hooters was always listening. And what better way is there to compete with fast casuals than to create one? Hooters answered that question with Hoots Wings, established in Chicago four years ago.
