BRATTLEBORO â Eyeing an Oct. 30 reopening, Hooker-Dunham Theater and Galleryâs new managers are fundraising to tackle some capital projects before the big day.
âWe could swing the doors wide open and welcome people in but we really want to be ready for it,â said Cameron Cobane, co-manager. âAnd we want it to be a comfortable, clean and presentable space when we do. So weâre replacing the carpet, weâre addressing some HVAC needs and doing a couple other minor capital improvements so weâre going to be better than ever when we reopen.â

BRATTLEBORO â The design of 1890s-era grange halls throughout New England typically followed the same plan â kitchen and dining area on the ground level and small gem of an auditorium upstairs. Guilfordâs Broad Brook Grange #151 was no different, and the townspeople of Guilford have been climbing the stairs for community events for over a hundred years.
Broad Brook Community Center, Inc. (BBCC) purchased the Grange in 2018, with big plans to improve and update the hall for new generations of Guilfordites and area friends and neighbors. The project is now in its final round of construction, and although there are many moving parts to this undertaking, installing a lift to the second floor (also required by code) is by far the most anticipated.

BRATTLEBORO â âSOLOs Episode 8: Running the Gamutâ â a video montage of monologues by seven area performers filmed by Brattleboro Community Television â premieres simultaneously on BCTV and on YouTube Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The free opening is capped with an online âtalk-backâ immediately following where audience members can chat with cast, directors, producers and technical staff. Each episode of SOLOs is a co-production of the Rock River Players and the Hooker-Dunham Theater, filmed on the Hooker-Dunham stage.
Rock River Playersâ founder, Annie Landenberger, produced episode 8, the latest in a series conceived and launched by Rock River Playersâ Bahman Mahdavi and Hooker-Dunham director Jon Mack last fall as a way to keep arts alive in COVID times.
