20 alleged Philippine money mules arrested in Taiwan

Taipei, May 10 (CNA) Twenty migrant workers from the Philippines have been arrested for allegedly working as money mules for an internet fraud ring that was targeting Taiwanese nationals, the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CWB) said Monday.
At a press conference, Hsu Chao-pin (徐釗斌) from the CIB s International Criminal Affairs Division said the 20 suspects were arrested during raids in Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan and Miaoli on Jan. 18, March 22 and April 19.
The group in Taiwan was headed by a 35-year-old Filipino migrant worker, identified only as Eda, who allegedly had been recruited by a fraud ring based in the Philippines, according to Hsu.

Taipei, May 9 (CNA) Taipei Metro police have found that most cases of sexual harassment and secret photography in the city s mass rapid transit (MRT) system over the past five years occurred at three downtown stations, led by Zhongxiao-Fuxing Station.
It was followed by Taipei Main Station and Zhongxiao-Dunhua Station, the Rapid Transit Division of the Taipei City Police Department said in a statement Sunday, noting that the results were obtained through big data analysis.
Greater Taipei MRT lines handle about 2.2 million riders a day, and most cases of secret photography and sexual harassment usually involving the buttocks or chests of victims have occurred at stations with heavy passenger traffic.

Taipei, May 5 (CNA) Five suspects believed to be involved in the release of 1,000 live cockroaches in a Taipei restaurant Monday claim they were hired to persuade the restaurant owner to settle an outstanding debt, police said Wednesday after their arrest.
The suspects, one female and four males, were arrested in two separate raids conducted in New Taipei and downtown Taipei on Tuesday, Taipei City Police Department Zhongshan Precinct chief Hsu Sung-chia (許頌嘉) said at a press conference.

Taipei, May 4 (CNA) A debt dispute between a restaurant owner and a criminal ring may be behind a bizarre cockroach attack at the Taipei restaurant Monday night while it was hosting a police gathering, according to Taipei Police Commissioner Chen Jia-chang (陳嘉昌).
Speaking Tuesday, Chen said the preliminary findings of the police investigation into the case at G House Taipei suggest that the unusual act may have been directed at the restaurant s owner, who allegedly owes money to the Bamboo Union, an organized crime ring.

Taipei, April 30 (CNA) Taipei City Police Commissioner Chen Jia-chang (陳嘉昌) on Friday was questioned by Taipei prosecutors and also handed over his mobile phone pending an investigation into his possible involvement in a cover-up that occurred two weeks ago.
The case goes back to April 16, when a group of 10 people believed to be members of a local gang stormed into the Zhonglun Police Station in Songshan Precinct to cause trouble, damaging a computer in the process.
