Unite launch nine-day ghost strike against 24% pay cut - Workers Revolutionary Party

Unite launch nine-day ‘ghost strike’ against 24% pay cut BA ground staff voting unanimously for strike action in August – strike action begins on Xmas Day but the union has called of all pickets BRITISH Airways Cargo workers begin nine days of strike action on Christmas Day, however their union, Unite, has called off all pickets. Under BA’s fire and rehire plan, workers are losing up to 24 per cent of their pay, which amounts to between £5,000-£11,000 per annum. Strike action will begin at 00:01hrs on Friday 25 December and will end at 24:00hrs on Saturday 2 January. Unite said: ‘As a result of Heathrow being in Tier 4 and the very high levels of Covid-19 in the capital, and despite workers having the right to picket, Unite has chosen not to organise pickets during the initial strike and it will not be organising any physical demonstrations for the same reason.’

HAL has made Heathrow a fire risk for passengers & staff! Call the whole airport out now to win fight!

Workers Revolutionary Party STRIKING Heathrow Airport workers are being treated with complete and utter contempt by Heathrow Airport Limited (HAL). Thousands of lives have been put at risk! During the current strike against fire and rehire methods there are no adequate fire safety measures in place, the Unite union warned yesterday. Yesterday was the strikers’ fourth day of action. The HAL workers are furious at the bosses’ imposition of a 25% cent pay cut amounting to £8,000 per year. The strikes involve firefighters, engineers, campus security, baggage operations, central terminal operations and landside and airside operations personnel. During the strike, HAL has brought in ‘contingency plans’ to keep its services running while the strike takes place. HAL have brought in temporary firefighters as a strike-breaking workforce.

Councils say Heathrow ruling changes nothing | Your Local Guardian

Councils opposed to Heathrow’s expansion say today’s Supreme Court ruling changes nothing and called on the airport to abandon its bid for a third runway. A group of local councils – Wandsworth, Hillingdon, Richmond upon Thames, Hammersmith and Fulham and Windsor and Maidenhead together with the Mayor of London and Greenpeace – had challenged the Airports National Policy Statement (ANPS) alongside environmental groups Plan B and Friends of the Earth. However, on Wednesday (Dec 16), the Supreme Court agreed with Heathrow Airport Limited that the former Secretary of State acted lawfully when considering the impact of the Paris Agreement. The ruling confirmed that the airport would be bound to comply with the UK’s revised carbon targets when, and if, it seeks to obtain planning permission for a third runway.
