Milton city council declines to adopt rules of decorum and civility

Pensacola News Journal Despite increasingly heated Milton City Council meetings that have seen some council members storm out of meetings, get in shouting matches with residents and other board members, and cause disruptions that can sidetrack meetings for hours, the council declined Thursday night to adopt a code of decorum and civility proposed by the mayor that sought to make meetings more peaceful and less contentious.  The Guiding Principals for Meetings within the City of Milton document was created by Milton Mayor Heather Lindsay and put forth for council consideration at Thursday night s council meeting. The mayor hoped to get the council members to agree to adopt the document as a way to express commonly shared values by the city s public servants.

Has anyone else recently used a 1987 Harrods (Knightsbridge, London) shopping bag for their non-recyclable rubbish-bin liner? Mind you, it was obviously made from very tough plastic to still be in one piece in the cupboard. And it worries me to think how long it will take for it to break down. The thin plastic bags that we used to get in supermarkets have turned to ash-like material when stored for one year!” This could be a mistake. Granny noticed the “Green Harrods classic bag” on eBay going for a respectable $13 (or four payments of $3.25).

Milton to rename community center after former mayor Clyde Lee Gracey

Following a long career in the U.S. Navy, Gracey settled in Milton with his wife and children and served the city in various capacities, including on the Milton Housing Authority Board, the first Board of Adjustments and the Elections Commission, as well as president of both the Milton High School PTA and the Quarterback Club. He served on the Milton City Council for six years and then became mayor in 1980, a seat he held for 14 years. Thompson succeeded him as mayor in 1994.  “Mr. Gracey contributed greatly to our city growth in the community, and I have nothing but the greatest respect for Mr. Gracey and the service he gave to our community,” Councilman George Jordan said. “I have no objection to us naming this community center after him.”
