Questions about who deserves access to West Seattle Bridge becomes flashpoint

The emotion over increasing access to the lower Spokane Street Bridge was evident Wednesday during a meeting of the West Seattle Bridge Community Task Force.
Even as members celebrated an important milestone in the plan to get traffic moving again, the most heated discussion occurred when Seattle Department of Transportation officials were pressed about increasing individual access to the lower swing bridge over the Duwamish River.
The upper bridge was closed almost one year ago on March 23 after structural engineers said the bridge could collapse when concrete cracks began to expand at a faster than anticipated pace.

The good news is that they seem to have obtained most of the money required for the repairs. Seems like this is a major milestone?
Let the calls begin to “fasttrack it!,” “allow cars through during non-work periods,” “allow cars through during rush hour,” “24/7 work crews,” “TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!,” “use the Italy/Birmingham/Wisconsin/etc. method,” etc.

The question of “why not allow some traffic on it now?” was asked at the briefing. Answer: It was stabilized enough to keep it from falling down, not enough to allow traffic.

Yes indeed, and also there are large access holes cut into the pavement.

Holy cow, the data shows there were ~2000 entitled jerks per day ignoring the law on that bridge? Is it possible to go back to camera footage from before enforcement began to identify who they are, and banish them from west Seattle permanently? I’m certain they wouldn’t be missed.

You seem like a very reasonable person.

that’s a pretty bold statement. you should worry about your own driving not the driving of others. Every time someone who is unauthorized crosses the bridge the city brings in $75 (not all of that goes directly to the city), and that goes to things such as road repairs and cameras. if you’re so worried and distraught by people making their own decisions maybe you should be banished to west Seattle.
Fire trucks with sirens paraded in front of the toddler s house. The boy was born with a rare condition, and it s unclear how much longer he may survive.
Toddler alive against all odds, gets amazing party from firefighters for 2nd birthday By: CNN
VALLEJO, California (KGO) In Vallejo Wednesday, was a birthday party for the ages.
It was a gathering of firefighters and a family they know very well though difficult circumstances.
We have never seen a party like it, especially for a two-year-old like Michael Reading. He loves fire trucks, said his mother, Emily. I have to tell you, we needed Michael as much as he needed us, added Captain Heather Marques of the Alameda County Fire Department.
The fact that Michael Reading has made it two years is a miracle. He was born with a rare condition, Neonatal Marfan, which inhibits his connective tissues. Michael has had three open-heart surgeries. Historically, 95 percent of patients do not survive one year. 98-percent never reach two. Now imagine being his mother, and dealing with that.
