The search is on for Cumbria s unsung farming heroes for prestigious awards

Cumberland Show 2019 .Judging the Interbreed Beef..SATURDAY 15th JUNE 2019. DAVID HOLLINS. A NEW date has been set for the inaugural Cumbria Farmer Awards. It had been planned to hold the much-anticipated event in the spring, but Covid-19 has led to the decision to move the event to a new date this autumn. Entries for the 12 categories will now be reopened until May 4. Alongside farming s core sectors - dairy, beef, sheep and machinery - there is also a celebration of talented youngsters coming into the industry. The search to find the county s farming unsung heroes is organised by Newsquest Cumbria in partnership with Carlisle-based business advisers and accountants Armstrong Watson.

THE inaugural Cumbria Farmer Awards will be judged by a panel of respected industry experts and specialists from a wide spectrum of backgrounds. Headed by Andrew Robinson, partner and head of agriculture and farming at Carlisle-based business advisers and accountants Armstrong Watson, our headline sponsors, who are also sponsoring a further category, the Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as the drinks reception. Five employees ring in 170 years at H&H Group

Together their shared experience marks 170 years with the company. Both Heather Pritchard and John Clarke mark 40 years, and David Holliday, Alan Threlkeld, and Michael Styth ring in 30 years of service at H&H. Marking the achievement, all received their awards from Richard Rankin Chief Executive of the H&H Group. Looking back on his four-decade long career, John Clarke from Castle Carrick said: “I have loved my time with H&H. I joined H&H in February 1968 as a temporary yard’s person helping with the calves for just one day a week. I was supposed to only help until they found someone else at Christmas, but I’m still waiting to find out which Christmas they meant!”

Together their shared experience marks 170 years with the company.
