Helena to start public process on where to allow e-bikes

HELENA â Helena city leaders are taking on the issue of where electric bicycles, or e-bikes, should be allowed in the city â and particularly whether to let them go on trails in open lands.
During an administrative meeting Wednesday, the Helena City Commission directed city staff to move forward with a public process over the next few months to get input and formulate recommendations on how the city should regulate e-bikes. They also clarified that, for now, e-bikes will continue to be prohibited in Helenaâs designated ânatural parksâ â including areas in the South Hills and around Mount Helena.

McGee grew up in Helena and graduated from Carroll College with a degree in sociology. He served 44 years with the Helena Police Department (HPD), including 23 years as chief of police, before retiring in 2019. I ve served Helena for a long time in multiple capacities, McGee said. In my brief retirement from the Police Department, I ve had a chance to speak with many Helena citizens who feel a great divide from our city government. I believe I could be that bridge and would be proud to serve our great community once again.

The city of Helena plans to file a counterclaim against Treasure State Internet & Telegraph, which is seeking $1.5 million in damages as a result of what it claims as negligence on the part of city government.
In a complaint initially filed in Montana First Judicial District Court Aug. 27 and amended Mar. 19 and again April 5, the public utility company alleges that city staff unlawfully interfered with its operations within city rights of way from the summer of 2015 to April 2020.
The complaint lays out a timeline of events across the five-year span that implicate the city engineering staff and city manager s office of wrongdoing.
