(Submitted photo) On Wednesday, Feb. 22, two members from the Hillsboro FFA Chapter competed in the sub-districts public speaking career development event at Hillsboro High School. The members who competed in the contest were Riley Stratton and Jenna Rhoads.
Stratton competed in the Advanced Prepared portion of the contest. In the prepared category, the contestants pick an agricultural-related topic and write a speech, which they memorize and present to the judges. The speech is six to eight minutes long.
Gladys J. Odegaard
Gladys J. Odegaard, age 90, resident of Cooperstown, ND passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at the Griggs County Care Center in Cooperstown.
Gladys June Lorch was born July 17, 1930. She was the youngest of five children born to Albert and Henrietta (Stern) Lorch at their rural Hillsboro, ND farm home.
Gladys grew up on the family farm, attended country school #4 for eight years and attended Hillsboro High School, graduating with the class of 1948. She graduated from Interstate Business College in Fargo and became employed with the City of Fargo Police Department, first as a clerk typist with the traffic bureau and later was appointed secretary to the Chief of Police, a position she held for 5 years, leaving the Department in September of 1954.

This week in 1883, the Hillsborough Gazette reported that railroad mail deliveries would arrive daily, except Sunday, at 5:45 a.m., 1:20 p.m. and 6:25 p.m., and that the post office would be open to transact business Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
