Matrics ready to change the future

Matrics ready to change the future By Tanya Waterworth, Duncan Guy Feb 20, 2021 Share Durban - Firday saw IEB matriculants celebrating at schools as they gathered to share their results, with many of the top pupils saying they saw a bright future for South Africa and wanted to give back to the country. Thabiso Dlamini, 2020 deputy head boy of Hilton College who achieved seven distinctions, said from his home in Hammarsdale on Friday: I was fortunate that so many gave so much to me. Not many kids get the opportunity to go to Hilton and I just wanted to take that opportunity with both hands and be an example to other children to show them they can succeed, no matter where they came from, he said, adding that his background had given him an inner desire to succeed.

PICS: Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park establishes K9 Unit to fight rhino poaching

PICS: Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park establishes K9 Unit to fight rhino poaching Share Durban – KwaZulu-Natal’s fight against rhino poaching has been given a boost following the collaboration of private sector organisations and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife who have bandied together to establish a dog unit. The recently established dog unit, known as HiP K9 Unit will operate inside Ezemvelo’s Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park (HiP) that has been the scene gruesome poaching in recent years. And already the unit has had success. Since its inception six months ago, it has carried out numerous interventions which have resulted in three notable successes with three arrests and a number of poaching groups interrupted before they have poached a rhino.

Norfolk headteachers' work to keep pupils learning at home

We re working 24/7, and we re being extremely strict about those who can come in. Last lockdown I felt bullied, but this time I don t. Unless both the pupils  parents are key workers, the child has to stay at home. My staff are putting their life on the line coming into work, and when the remote provision is just as good as the real thing, I don t see any reason for that child to have to come into school. Norfolk County Council warned parents there d be pressure on places for their children at school during lockdown - Credit: Archant James Wright, vice-chair of governors at Great Yarmouth s St Nicholas Priory, recounted a similar state of affairs.
