Winners and losers emerging from the 2021 Legislative Session
They all can t be winners. Here is the definitive list of who s up and who took a fall.
The ending of a Session is never a surprise. It’s like harvest season. What you get at the end is the result of months, maybe even years of tilling, planting, watering, tending, and shepherding.
Against the odds and despite many challenges, the 2021 Legislative Session ended on time. The House Speaker and the Senate President were together for the iconic dropping of the hankie. There weren’t any strained smiles or forced compliments. They stood side by side, thanking each other as much as they talked about themselves.

TALLAHASSEE â Florida lawmakers on Thursday reached a deal on a sweeping $200 million proposal that would combine and significantly expand the stateâs voucher programs that help families pay for private schooling.
After months of negotiations, House and Senate leaders agreed on legislation that would pave the way for about 61,000 new students to qualify for taxpayer-funded vouchers, a push
that Democrats fought as they advocated for more oversight and accountability for private schools that will be getting state-funded vouchers.
Lawmakers are watering down the bill s language from what they initially envisioned.
The House is slated to vote on a bill that would expand the scope of practice for physician assistants, but not as far as originally planned.
The bill (
HB 431), carried by Naples Republican Rep.
Bob Rommel, would lift several restrictions on PAs, including removing the restriction on how many PAs a physician can oversee. But that was before lawmakers adopted an amendment on the House floor Tuesday to instead raise the cap on how many assistants a physician can supervise from four to 10.
“Physician assistants are a big part of our health care in Florida,” Rommel said. “It allows patients to have choices. This bill will give supervising physicians the ability to determine how many PAs he or she may supervise.”
