FRANKLIN COUNTY, TN. (WAFF) - Authorities in Franklin County, TN are investigating a fatal plane crash that happened Sunday night.
It happened in the Hickory Ridge area of Keith Springs Mountain around 10 p.m.
Deputies say the pilot, Carl Spray, and the passenger, Joseph Mackey were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to deputies, Spray was 78 and Mackey was 58. Both men were from Estill Springs, TN.
Additional details and cause of the crash are still unknown at this time.

âIt is beyond exciting to hear about a new state record, and it emphasizes the fantastic fishing opportunities found in Georgia,â said Scott Robinson, assistant chief of Fisheries for the Wildlife Resources Division. âWho will catch the next one? It might be you â but you have to get outdoors and Go Fish Georgia!â
Kannapolis City Schools and Cabarrus County Schools reported their updated COVID-19 numbers for the week of Jan. 25 through Jan. 31 on Monday.
KCS reported three new cases and 16 new quarantines while CCS reported 61 new cases (19 staffers and 42 students). CCS is not currently releasing quarantine numbers to the public.
Kannapolis City Schools remains in Plan C, so no students are on campus, but 743 staff members remain at work in either nutritional or administrative capacities.
Superintendent Chip Buckwell, who announced his retirement Monday after 37 years with KCS, released the numbers in his weekly Facebook video.
âAs our community keeps moving towards large-scale vaccination, it is still important to continue with all the recommended prevention practices,â he said. âGetting students safely back face-to-face is #KCSEssential.â
