To the editor:
We want to share some of our basketball memories, following the March 20 column by Terry Housholder about state tournament memories. (The column was headlined: Hoosier Hysteria memories â 50 years ago today.)
Basketball was of great interest to our family, too. My dad, Dale Guthrie, played for Albion on the winning team, graduating in 1927. He went on to teach and coached 7th and 8th grades at York Center school, also with outstanding teams. He was official score keeper for county sectionals played at the Big Blue Pit in Kendallville. Those were the days!
My farm boy husband played for my dad and also for Albion-Jefferson (The Trojans) all four years of high school. He graduated in 1954 and earned MVP in that year. He and three of his classmates got to attend the 1954 state finals game played at Hinkle Field House. (It was called Butler Field House in 1954.) History was made that year. We have the March 20, 1954, ticket that looks like March 20, 1971. Admission

Gov. Eric Holcomb signed a bill Tuesday that would protect women who request pregnancy accommodations a measure pregnancy accommodation advocates say does not go far enough to make change.
Proponents of the bill, however, have indicated it s a good compromise between the interest of workers and businesses in Indiana.
Holcomb also made good on a promise to beef up the executive branch s own pregnancy accommodation policies, signing an executive order on Tuesday detailing what accommodations state agencies should be providing for pregnant workers, such as assistance with manual labor or more breaks.

The Indiana House voted to override Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb s veto of a bill that would shift some power from the governor to the legislative branch during an emergency.
The Republican-dominated House approved the override by a 59-26 vote. None of the lawmakers present for the vote changed their vote since the bill passed last week.
The vote comes after a year of push back on Holcomb s executive orders on masks and business restrictions from the more conservative members of his own party. Holcomb himself dropped the mask mandate and all other restrictions at the beginning of the month, but it wasn t enough to stop House Enrolled Act 1123.

The Indiana Senate joined the House on Thursday in voting to override Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb s veto of a bill that would shift some power from the governor to the legislative branch during an emergency.
Some Democrats had called the legislation a power grab by the Republican-dominated legislature against Republicans own state party leader.
Experts also issued a warning about the bill s constitutionality, so a rare court fight between Indiana s legislative and executive branches could ensue.
