Halcyon Days: The Unique Greek Weather Phenomenon

Halcyon Days: The Unique Greek Weather Phenomenon A sunny day in Athens. Credit: Greek Reporter Greece is reputed to have almost 300 days of sunshine a year, even during the winter when the unique phenomenon of the Halcyon Days aka Alkyonides Days takes place creating a mini summer break amidst the winter. The phrase, translated into “Halcyon days” in English, has a literal meaning of calm, peaceful days. It is the translation of ‘Alkyonides Meres’. The Alkyonides Days take place from December 15 to February 15 each year, and most often between January 16-31. During this time, the days are typically sunny, with clear skies and no wind, with high temperatures not typical for the season.

LOOSE ENDS 1/22: Jack Morrison - centraljersey com

LOOSE ENDS 1/22: Jack Morrison × By Pam Hersh The last time I saw Princeton businessman and entrepreneur Jack Morrison was at the gym – one year ago. A few weeks prior to the gym encounter, I had interviewed Jack, along with Chef Nicolas Demurge, at Jack’s most recent Princeton restaurant endeavor, the French bistro Kristine’s. Located in the heart of Princeton at Hinds Plaza, aka Library Plaza, Kristine’s, thanks to Chef Demurge’s culinary skills and business background, grew into a popular lunch and dinner destination and had just started offering breakfast. My health-conscious daughter-in-law, whose name happens to be Christine, had eaten there and was wowed by the creativity, simplicity, freshness, “no heaviness” of the offerings. The menu also included vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free options – something very crucial to the insane food restrictions of my family members, whose only food option suitable for everyone is Styrofoam.

Reviews: Iggy & the Stooges, Richard Hell, Johnny Thunders, Marc Almond, Soft Cell, Freakbeat, Krautrock, Jon Anderson

Cherry Red/Strike Force Entertainment Like David Bowie and maybe one or two others, it matters not how “huge” Marc Almond’s individual records are. In the eyes of his diehard fans, of whom there are many, he remains akin to an underground cult, beloved by a select few folk, and offered widespread approval only for the hits that he occasionally spills out. The Stars We Are, from 1988, is a case in point. Buoyed by what would become a monster smash duet with Gene Pitney, “Something’s Gotten Hold of my Heart,” and the UK Top 30 “Tears Run Rings,” The Stars We Are may not, ultimately, have become his biggest-selling album yet, but it was certainly his most visible. Particularly in the US where, more than thirty years on, it’s still the one that the dealer is most likely to produce when you ask if he has any Almond in stock.
