As COVID-19 cases continue to climb in Michigan, four local school buildings were added to this week’s School-Related Outbreak Report from the state. The schools were among seven in Ottawa County and 83 around the state added to the report.
Holland High School, Zeeland West High School and West Ottawa’s Harbor Lights and Macatawa Bay Middle Schools were all added to the report. The schools each had two cases related to their outbreaks except for Zeeland West, which had seven.
Last week, Holland and Zeeland both went remote for Wednesday and Thursday at the high school level along with middle school at ZPS in response to elevated cases and quarantines.

HOLLAND A group of Holland residents is asking the Holland school board to consider ending a partnership with local police for school resource officers.
Three people spoke during public comment of Monday’s Holland Public Schools Board of Education meeting to make their request.
Dan Carter, Chris Theule-VanDam and Jill Russell, all HPS parents, spoke about disrupting what they described as the school-to-prison pipeline by reallocating financial resources used to bring law enforcement into the school. Several others indicated support for the group in the chat box of the Zoom meeting.
The district has two school resources officers, one at both Holland High and Holland Middle. Salaries for the officers are split between HPS and Holland Department of Public Safety.
