2. DC rates tend to move in tandem with rising property prices
To give you a sense of this, let’s consider the price movement of properties from around June 2017, to the last round of cooling measures in July 2018:
On average, prices had risen from $1,295 to $1,500 psf within this period.
Within the same period, DC rates spiked to record levels. In September 2017, for example, DC rates rose 13.8 per cent for residential properties on average, with hikes in 116 out of 118 sectors. In some sectors, the rate rose by 29 per cent. At the time, it was the biggest rate hike we’d seen in around 10 years.

While Ottawa’s restaurants hope to be able to reopen their dining rooms for the Valentine’s Day weekend, some are prioritizing special menus as to-go choices for couples to enjoy in their homes.
“There is a good chance it (restaurants) may open, but the seating limit will make it hard to have a good, busy, dining-in crowd,” says Joe Thottungal, chef-owner of Thali in downtown Ottawa. “So we are aiming mostly for takeout and delivery. If it opens, we may do indoor dining for limited people.”

Two men can be seen in a longer version of the video released by police Sunday night walking across Van Duzer Street toward the studio at around 7:48 p.m. before one man, who appears to have multiple face tattoos, rings the doorbell of the establishment.
