Police are searching for suspects following a brazen daylight shooting in Ajax on Wednesday.
Durham police say they were called to the area of Harwood Avenue and Kingston Road just before 4:30 p.m. following reports of shots being fired.
When they arrived, they discovered a 26-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman in a while Hyundai Elantra suffering from gunshot wounds. They were taken to a trauma centre in Toronto in life-threatening condition.

The shooting occurred near Kingston Road and Harwood Avenue sometime after 4 p.m. Police have said that the occupants of two vehicles were in the intersection when shots rang out. More than 45 shell casings were found on scene. In an interview with CP24 on Thursday, Const. George Tudos said that a 24-year-old woman and a 26-year-old that were in a white sedan both sustained gunshot wounds. He said that they exited the vehicle in the intersection before it rolled southbound, mounted a curb and ended up pushed up against a restaurant patio. Durham police were called to the intersection of Kingston Road and Harwood Avenue sometime after 4 p.m. Acting Sgt. George Tudos said occupants of two vehicles exchanged gunfire at the intersection. More than 40 rounds were fired during the shootout, he said. When officers arrived, they located several shell casings and a white vehicle on the sidewalk riddled with bullet holes. Inside, they found two people, a man and a woman, suffering from gunshot wounds. Tudos said the victims were transported to a Toronto trauma centre with life-threatening injuries.

TORONTO Police in Durham Region have released surveillance video of a man who they say lit a tow truck on fire early Friday morning. In a news release, police said they received a report of a vehicle fire on Gamble Drive in Ajax, Ont. at approximately 6:50 a.m. When officers arrived on scene, they said they found a Chevrolet tow truck “fully engulfed in flames.” Firefighters were able to put the fire out and there were no injures reported, police said. Surveillance video of the incident posted by police appears to show the suspect dousing the vehicle with an unknown substance, igniting the flame and then fleeing the scene.
