Cllr Danny Purton died last week. Photo: Harlow Council Tributes have poured in for a ‘passionate’ serving Harlow councillor who died last week. Councillor Danny Purton, a Labour councillor for the Mark Hall Ward, passed away on the night of Friday, April 30 following a short illness. Mr Purton was the council’s cabinet portfolio holder for environment and was first elected as a councillor for Mark Hall in February 2015 and was re-elected in May 2018. “We were all saddened to hear the news that Councillor Purton had passed away,” said Brian Keane, chief executive of the council.

Robert Halfon, Conservative MP for the town, paid a special and personal tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, in a ‘humble address to be presented to Her Majesty the Queen’ in the House of Commons.

Boris Johnson’s national roadmap has imprinted dates such as April 12 – haircuts and a pint in a pub garden – and June 21 – the return of the clubs – on the national psyche. And now Harlow Council has published its own roadmap, revealing when council services will return. Already, the council has reopened its tennis courts, multi-use games areas, basketball courts, the outdoor gym and skate park in the Town Park as part of ‘Step 1’ of the programme.

Photo: PHE Questions remain over the future of the £400 million Public Health England Harlow campus project. Neither the Government nor Harlow Council have been willing, or able, to answer the big question: Will the project still go ahead following the scrapping of Public Health England (PHE)? The plans, which would have created 2,500 jobs for the town, have previously been described by Harlow Council leader Mark Ingall as “probably the most important development in Harlow since Harlow existed”.
