A second-degree murder charge has been approved against a 24-year-old Surrey man in the fatal shooting Tuesday of a young woman.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team announced Thursday that Ali Khudhair has been charged in connection with the murder of Keryane Arsenault, 20.

Arsenault was found critically injured about 9 p.m. on May 4 at her residence in the 9700-block of 161A Street in Surrey.
She later died of her injuries in hospital.

A shooting outside Langley’s Willowbrook Mall on Monday has sent one man to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.
Police were called just after 3:30 p.m. to the scene, where they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds on the north side of the mall outside the Toys ‘R’ Us store.

Video footage online appears to show a black SUV cordoned off by police in the parking lot. Witnesses have said online they heard multiple shots fired.

Police are calling it a targeted shooting and an isolated incident.
“At this time, we do not believe there is an ongoing risk to public safety,” said Cunningham, adding there is no evidence to suggest the shooting was linked to the Lower Mainland gang conflict.

The Lower Mainland gang scene has changed in recent years with younger players joining fledging gangs that are contributing to an ongoing, violent conflict, the new head of B.C.’s anti-gang agency says.
RCMP Asst. Commissioner Manny Mann, recently appointed chief officer of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, said there are now more gangs in B.C. and more rivalries than there were 11 years ago at “the height of the well-documented gang war.”
