News by Caroline Schelle 19th May 2021 5:13 AM The boss of a truckie who ploughed into four police officers in Melbourne received a text hours before the horror crash warning him I don t think he should be driving . Explosive text messages tendered in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday showed Connect Logistics manager Simiona Tuteru was told truck driver Mohinder Singh shouldn t be on the road. Mr Tuteru is facing more than 80 charges in connection to the crash - including four counts of manslaughter - because he allegedly caused or encouraged Singh to get behind the wheel while he was fatigued, impaired by drugs and unfit to drive .
His pupils were dilated, he seemed pretty terrified and he couldn t stop speaking.
Ms Bajwa told the court that her father feared he was going to be fired from his trucking company job if he didn t attend a meeting with his boss Simon Tuteru. I told him he shouldn t go to that meeting because he wasn t fit to drive and needs to see a psychiatrist, she said.
Mr Tuteru, 49, who is the Victorian manager of Connect Logistics, has been charged with four counts of manslaughter over the deaths of the police officers.
But he is facing 82 charges in total, with police alleging he also failed to ensure the safety of other drivers at the trucking company by exceeding their permissible hours behind the wheel.
It was not uncommon for him to speak to his family about witches and ghosts. But that day was different.
“The way he was acting that day scared me and I told him he was going to kill someone if he drove,” the 21-year-old told Melbourne magistrates court on Monday.
“His voice was racing, his pupils were bigger. He seemed pretty terrified.”
She gave evidence on the first day of a committal hearing in the case against trucking boss Simiona Tuteru, who is facing 82 charges including manslaughter.
The committal is expected to examine what the Connect Logistics manager knew about Singh’s impaired state and what he did, if anything, to encourage him to drive.
