Amtrak is looking to expand its network of passenger trains, for the first time in two decades. The proposal by “America s Railroad” to add dozens of new corridors and state-supported trains to its network has drawn both support and criticism from advocates: support because it marks a new attitude on Amtrak s part favoring expansion (of some sort, at least); criticism because it does not go far enough toward pushing for more long-distance trains or recognizing the contributions of the citizen-advocates who have been calling for more trains throughout almost all of Amtrak s 50-year history.

A MAPS 3 advisory committee wants to know why the Oklahoma City Convention Center s management company, ASM Global, is requesting two wheelchair ramps between the third-floor atrium and the ballroom level.
Construction is quickly wrapping up on the 550,000-square-foot convention center, which was dedicated last month.

“America’s Railroad” recently released a map showing the services it would like to offer by 2035; 14 years from now. As planning frontiers go, that is not a very long time. For us seniors, who remember the entire Amtrak era, it feels like an eternity; far beyond our lifetimes.

Proposed Infrastructure Plan Would Offer Oklahomans Expanded Access To Internet, Passenger Trains
Republicans in Congress including members of Oklahoma s delegation – staunchly oppose President Biden s $2 trillion infrastructure and jobs plan, saying it would spend very little on actual infrastructure and would kill jobs.
The administration, meanwhile, is trying to generate public support for the measure by highlighting ways that it would benefit taxpayers: from expanded internet access in rural America to expanded access to passenger rail.
In Oklahoma, Amtrak s popular Heartland Flyer passenger train could finally be extended north, making passenger rail an option for more travelers. Oklahoma is particularly well situated, because Oklahoma DOT, Kansas DOT and Amtrak have been looking for quite a while at the idea of extending our Heartland Flyer service up to Newton [Kansas] to connect with our Southwest Chief service there,” said Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari.
