Franco Harris and Rod Woodson both know a bit about overcoming long odds.
Harris is famous for a game-winning touchdown in the final seconds of a 1972 National Football League (NFL) playoff game for the Pittsburgh Steelers, when he plucked a deflected pass off his shoe top.
Woodson, a defensive back, returned quickly from a major knee injury suffered at age 30 with the Steelers, switched positions, and continued to be a standout.

Pace Stands Firm, the Cost Of Missing Out On Wentz, Lawrence as QB3, and Other Bears Bullets
My friend Jim has a cookbook coming out. You might be familiar with some of recipes I’ve shared here previously. And if you like those, or are interested in diving into some good food, I’d highly recommend purchasing The Food Good Cookbook.
• Carson Wentz will be a Colt. And it turns out the Bears never even made an offer. What a wild ride this has been.

• On one the hand, I’m glad the Bears didn’t overpay to roll the dice on the Wentz reclamation project. The ceiling is high, to be sure. But he was more likely to reach that with the Colts. But on the other hand, another high-upside quarterback is off the board with Wentz going to Indy.

I wrote a two-part column in 2016 on Super Bowl champion and Armijo Class of 1971 grad George Martin that gave an overview of his accomplishments and life.
I mentioned his 2014 book,
“Just Around the Bend-My Journey for 9/11,” which chronicled his remarkable fundraising walk of more 3,000 miles – from New York City to San Diego – from September 2007 to March 2008.
The majority of the book obviously focuses on Martin’s quest and it is enjoyable and enlightening to read. He also focuses on his 14-year football career and all of the numerous wonderful projects that he has been a part of that have made the planet a better place for so many.
