Time for elected officials to deliver
Now that the last election is out of the way, it‘s time for the newly elected officials to do what they where elected for. Who ever wins Division 3 the priority should be the cost of living.
Mainly rates and the water bill issues.
The tiered water bill which gets more expensive as the year goes on is a bit of a joke. If you like a good looking yard, your water bill is nearly as expensive as the rates.
If I remember right. The barrage is owned and paid for by the Rocky rate payers and was commandeered by the Beattie Government.
Even the beloved “Dr Seuss” books and “Sesame Street” aren’t exempt!
It is a momentous task to eliminate every offending era or icon.
Who decides?
Why not delete all history books, so as not to offend those whose ancestors may have caused harm to current descendents.
In reality, the social and political contexts of many icons deemed offensive today, may not align with today’s society, yet are there for us to learn from.
To discount some but allow others, may itself offend certain cultures and demographics which still value these.
The popular Sydney “Mardi Gras” festival offends the Christian community, but that is ignored by the “Cancel Culture” police.
Lea Taylor
Lea Taylor was Mayor from 1991 to 1997 in Rockhampton city; he left the mayoral position to work on his property.
I met Lea Taylor in 2012 when he wanted to run for mayor and try and get a team of councillors elected with him, to ensure debt levels were reduced and that our region could have a strong future.
“Experience you can rely on”, was the slogan and I joined the Regional Independent team.
There is one thing that I will never forget about Lea, is the fact that he had a strong work ethic.
There were many long hours put into running campaigns and I remember at times, helping him produce videos up to 2am.
