Five people who were among the first in Vietnam to be injected with a COVID-19 vaccine developed by AstraZeneca/Oxford have experienced side effects, according to the Ministry of Health.
Since the launch of the COVID-19 vaccination
on Monday, a total of 522 medical workers, who are directly treating COVID-19 patients, conducting sampling and testing, and performing contact-tracing tasks, have received the shots, according to the Expanded Program on Immunization.

These health staffs working in the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi, the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City, the medical clinic in Hai Duong Town and in Kim Thanh District of the Northern Province of Hai Duong were inoculated against Covid-19 first when the country started mass vaccination with AstraZeneca shots to achieve herd immunity.

Vietnam started providing COVID-19 vaccinations to health workers in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and northern Hai Duong Province on Monday morning.
A
decision signed by Deputy Minister of Health Truong Quoc Cuong on Saturday showed that the 117,600 COVID-19 vaccine doses that Vietnam currently has would be distributed to 13 provinces and cities, 21 hospitals and medical centers, as well as the Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of National Defense.
The process began on Monday morning at four locations in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hai Duong Province.

Caritas in northern Vietnam has provided food aid for tens of thousands of people who have been badly affected by anti-coronavirus measures in the country’s epicenter of the pandemic.
Hai Duong province, which has become the epicenter of the third wave of Covid-19 in Vietnam, has recorded 701 infections since Jan. 28, when the first cases were detected in the province.
The province with 100,000 factory workers started to be isolated on Feb. 16 to contain the pandemic. Many places are still in quarantine.
