The number of officers on the beat has plunged by 708 in just a decade. Tasked with fighting crime, the number of frontline officers has fallen from 3,748 in March 2010, to 3,040 officers in March 2021. This is a change of 19 per cent. Meanwhile, the number of PCSOs patrolling Hampshire streets has also dropped. The figures from the Home Office, show that in March 2010 there were 347 but in March this year, the figure stood at just 237 - a 32 per cent decrease. The Labour party claims that the number of police in Hampshire has been decimated over the last decade under successive Tory governments. To put “pressure on the Government to properly support police forces and put more criminals behind bars”, the Labour Party, led by Keir Starmer, has launched its Safer Communities campaign, with pledges to crack down on anti-social behaviour and end violence against women and girls.
