With a heart for compassion and a choice for positive endurance, Corvallis Junior Skylar Tibbs just completed her eighth surgery for symptoms of a rare genetic disorder.
Tibbs was in first grade when she was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) and has endured seven other surgeries for the symptoms.
She is upbeat and dedicated to her schoolwork and education about her diagnosis.
âIâm the ninth person, and one of the youngest, in the United States to be diagnosed with this disorder,â she said Thursday. âMost of the time it is hereditary so could be in my family bloodline, but most people donât experience the symptoms until their mid to late 40s. We think Iâm the first family member to experience the genetic symptoms.â

SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP â A second tour of duty in Ashtabula County took on a different meaning for Ohio State Highway Patrol Ashtabula Post Trooper of the Year Michael Slack, 32, who transitioned from the Ashtabula Harbor Coast Guard Station to the OHP.
The transition took a number of years, but Slack decided the OHP was the best place for him to continue the things he learned in the U.S. Coast Guard and turn them in to a more permanent career.
