LAHORE: Sialkot deputy commissioner (DC) Zeeshan Javaid and district police officer (DPO) Hassan Asad Alvi were made officers on special duty (OSD) on Wednesday in the wake of the Daska by-election ‘controversy’. The development took place just a day before their bosses chief secretary and inspector general of police Punjab were to appear before the Election Commission Pakistan (ECP) to clarify their positions in respect of serious complaints of mismanagement and rigging in NA-75.
The ECP [on Feb 25] had summoned Punjab chief secretary Jawad Rafiq Malik and IGP Inam Ghani Khan to appear before the commission in person on March 4 (today) and the hearing would decide the fate of these officials.

LAHORE: The Punjab government finally removed Gujranwala Regional Police Officer (RPO) Riaz Nazir Gara and Divisional Commissioner Gulzar Hussain Shah from their positions in the wake of the Daska by-election controversy.
The action was taken against both officers of the Pakistan Police Service and the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) in compliance with the recommendations of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The commission, in its strongly-worded recommendations, had demanded removal of both the officers from the posts on complaints of alleged rigging , aerial firing to harass voters and mismanagement, particularly, on the polling day in the NA-75 of Daska.

SIALKOT: The Punjab government has suspended Daska Assistant Commissioner Asif Hussain Mehdi and two deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) from service following the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) orders.
The ECP had ordered removal of the officers on Feb 24 in its verdict on Daska National Assembly constituency NA-75 by-polls, after PML-N complaints regarding “kidnapping” of 20 presiding officers and other staff and tampering with the results, demanding re-polling.
