Hong Kong to Fire 129 Civil Servants Who Refused to Pledge Allegiance

AFP Authorities in Hong Kong on Monday announced plans to start terminate the contracts of civil servants who refused to take an oath of allegiance to the Hong Kong govermment. Secretary for the Civil Service Patrick Nip told lawmakers that 129 out of 170,000 civil servants haven t signed a written declaration of loyalty, with some writing on the form that the requirement infringed their right to free speech. The declaration vows that the officials will bear allegiance to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China . and be responsible to the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
