The man turning Bruce Lee s forgotten screenplay The Silent Flute to life in a 6-part TV series

Criterion Collection Bruce Lee thought that The Silent Flute , a script he wrote with screenwriter Stirling Silliphant and actor James Coburn in 1969, would become the film that made him an international star. But the project did not get off the ground and was abandoned. Now Lee fans will finally get the chance to experience Lee’s metaphysical martial arts work courtesy of Hong Kong-born producer Jason Kothari, who has bought the rights to the script and is turning it into a six-hour series. As described in Matthew Polly’s biography Bruce Lee , the original script revolves around a hero called Cord the Seeker, who “embarks on a journey to discover the true nature of martial arts. Along the way, Cord must defeat several enemies … who represent fear, anger, and death.”

Oscar-nominated Do Not Split now part of Hong Kong s story of waning freedoms - director

Oscar-nominated Do Not Split now part of Hong Kong s story of waning freedoms - director By Aleksander Solum Reuters HONG KONG (Reuters) - The decision in Hong Kong not to air this year s Oscars has only brought more global attention to its struggle for democracy, said the director of the Do Not Split documentary about the city s 2019 protests, which has been short-listed for an award. Free-to-air broadcaster TVB, which has broadcast the Oscars every year since 1969, said it would not carry the ceremony this year for commercial reasons. TVB s decision has fuelled concerns about dwindling freedoms in Hong Kong, which has taken an authoritarian path since China imposed a sweeping national security law last year in response to the often violent protests of 2019.
