County Hires Interim Health Director Details Published: 24 February 2021
A familiar face is stepping into the top post at the Clatsop County Public Health Department.
Margo Lalich has been tapped to serve as interim director of the department following the departure of Michael McNickle, who is stepping down to head the Gray’s Harbor County, Wash. health department. She will join the county on March 1.
Lalich served with Clatsop County Public Health for 15 years beginning in 1998, when she joined as a public health nurse. She coordinated public health programs including the county’s HIV/AIDS case management, immunization, WIC, and other services. She served as the lead public health preparedness coordinator. In 2009 she was selected as Public Health Director and held that position until 2013.

When the Covid-19 pandemic virtually shuttered Hawaii to tourists from late March to mid-October, it left Bruce Fisher mostly idle.
The Honolulu-based travel advisor owns and operates Hawaii Aloha Travel with his wife, Yaling; the couple focuses solely on vacations to the Islands. By July, there was no clarity on when the pandemic might dissipate, when Hawaii would reopen to tourists or when the Fishers phone might start ringing again.

PATTY SAKAL: 1958 - 2021
Patty Sakal, an American Sign Language interpreter who translated updates about the coronavirus for deaf Hawaiians, died on Friday of complications related to COVID-19. She was 62.
Sakal, who lived in Honolulu, died at Alvarado Hospital Medical Centre in San Diego, where she had gone last month to visit one of her daughters, according to Sakal’s sister, Lorna Mouton Riff.
Sakal, who worked as an ASL interpreter for nearly four decades in a variety of settings, had become a mainstay in coronavirus press briefings in Hawaii, working with both the former mayor of Honolulu, Kirk Caldwell, and Governor David Ige to interpret news for the deaf community.

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - More officials currently or previously tied to Honolulu Hale are being called to testify in connection with a federal probe stemming from the Kealoha scandal.
Former City Council members Ernie Martin and Trevor Ozawa arrived for federal grand jury proceedings Thursday along with current City Councilman Brandon Elefante.
Both Elefante and Martin declined to comment about their appearance. Hawaii News Now sent an email to Ozawa but did not hear back.
