Saturday Thoughts
A new year and another weekend and another of IST Saturday thoughts…..
Let us start with loonies in the Flat Earth movement…..it seems that took out a sailboat to prove Earth’s flatness…….
If the Earth was flat it would be incredibly easy to prove. For instance, you could go to any seashore and look at a boat sailing far out in the distance and not dipping over the horizon, or ask any of the astronauts onboard the International Space Station to just take a quick photo of the flat circle below as a favor.
So far, not a single flat-Earther has been able to find any proof, which should tell you something about whether the theory has merit, even if you discount all the evidence that Earth is indeed round as a global conspiracy that only YouTuber “GlobeEarthCuck1848174” has seen through.

A Harvard professor believes that we were visited by an alien object in 2017. In his upcoming book,
Extraterrestrial: The First Sign of Intelligent Life Beyond Earth, theoretical physicist Avi Loeb lays out his theory about a peculiar-shaped object that entered our solar system several years ago. The interstellar object–named Oumuamua – was first observed through the Pan-STARRS telescope at Hawaii s Haleakala Observatory in 2017. Researchers determined that it had passed through the ecliptic plane on September 6 from the direction of Vega, a star in the Lyra constellation that is about 25 light-years away from our planet.
The team, named SLV III, got practice image sets taken by Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS) located at Haleakala Observatory, Hawaii, US. Subsequently, they received real-time images of the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, in which they had to locate moving objects. “It was rather interesting as we were told to look out for black spots that moved or changed positions. We then had to tag what we felt were asteroids. We had to use letters and numbers to name them. I remember naming one ‘AVP2007’, which is my initials and year of birth,” Pulate said.
