Young umpire s big WBBL dreams | Daily Mercury

Premium Content Subscriber only What started as a way to improve her own game has quickly blossomed into a passion that Bree Searle hopes will one day take her to the top. Just over a year ago, the 15 year old thought “why not” to umpiring a Mackay Cricket Women’s match and not long after she was at square leg for a junior Bulls Masters tournament at Harrup Park. That sparked an immediate love for officiating and Bree now gets greater enjoyment from umpiring than she does playing the game. “I just felt like I wanted to get to know the game a bit more,” she said.

Schembri stars as Mackay falls short on day one of NQ champs

Premium Content Subscriber only Benjamin Schembri s stellar showing with bat and ball is the silver lining from a disappointing loss to FNQ on day one of the U15 North Queensland Championships at Harrup Park this afternoon. The Pioneer Valley all-rounder was joint top-scorer for Mackay Whitsundays in an eight-wicket loss to a quality FNQ outfit. Coming in at seven, Schembri blasted 38 off 46, including six fours, to tie opener Joel McFarlane s total and help push the hosts total out to 180. Schembri was then the pick of the bowlers, particularly early in the second innings, with tight lines and smart fields keeping the FNQ openers under wraps.
