Members from Friends of Central Park, Harold Hill Wombles and Harold Hill Deer Aid joined forces with local residents to clean up Central Park on Sunday (May 23).

A number of Harold Hill community groups have joined forces to clean up Central Park.
Marshalled by Gooshays ward councillor Jan Sargent, members from Friends of Central Park, Harold Hill Wombles and Harold Hill Deer Aid combined to clear rubbish from the green space.
Friends of Central Park were one of the residents groups involved in the litter picking initiative.

Local residents also got involved over the weekend.

James said: “Thanks to TAKSAL, there is no safer environment than the one we are now able to provide. We support them as they support us and so far, we have donated £1,500 this year to them. However, the elements are against us and we haven’t been able to open as much as usual.”
The rain didn’t stop the children from enjoying the rides, and leader of Havering Council, Cllr Damian White, also came to support the event.
He said: It looks lovely here and it s a wonderful community event with traditional British weather, but it s nice to see - with restrictions being eased - the community coming together and to support each other.

A tree to remember those lost to Covid-19 has been planted in the Garden for the Blind at Harrow Lodge Park.
Havering Mayor John Mylod did the honours on Friday (April 23), watched by a number of volunteers who had been working on green space throughout the morning.
On the garden - which turns 60 in July and is also called the Secret Blind Garden - Cllr Mylod said: I can t believe that after all these years, it s still here. I m really pleased to be planting this tree, which is intended to remember those we ve lost, but also to think about happy times.

The UK recorded its lowest temperature in more than two decades as the mercury plunged to minus 23C overnight following an “extreme freeze”.
Braemar, Aberdeenshire, saw temperatures hit a bone-chilling minus 23.0C (minus 9.4F), the coldest temperature recorded in the UK since 1995, the Met Office said.
