Manyuchi to Defend Title in February
December 23, 2020
World Boxing Federation middleweight champion Charles Manyuchi will defend his title which will be unified with the WABA crown against Ugandan Muhamad Sebyala at Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) in February next year.
That will be almost a year after the original date on which the two were supposed to face-off.
The Zimbabwean was supposed to host Sebyala on April 4 this year, but the bout had to be shelved due to Covid-19.
The fight couldn’t take place either in August as the pandemic was still ravaging the world.
Manyuchi, who claimed the WBF title after beating Argentine Pablo Ezequiel Acosta via a TKO in September last year, was allowed to hold on to the crown by the sanctioning board until it was practically possible to defend it.
Mystery over Jah Prayzah, Winky D show cancellation
By Kennedy Nyavaya
Fans, artistes and promoters were left searching for concealed answers after local authorities reportedly ordered a last-minute cancellation of a Friday night gig where musical giants Winky D and Jah Prayzah were billed to perform live at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC), Standard Style has learned.
The show themed Best of Both Worlds had been scheduled for livestream on the Gateway Stream Pay-Per-View (PPV) platform while a maximum of 100 VIP guests would have physically attended so as to adhere to Covid-19 protocols.
However, the police reportedly stormed the venue at the 11th hour before pulling the plug on the entire event.
Foreign Brief
ZIMBABWE’S main opposition group, the Movement for Democratic Change Tsvangirai (MDC-T), will hold its extraordinary congress today (Saturday) at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) to elect a new leader.
The breakaway faction of the MDC-T is currently led by the 2018 presidential election candidate Thokozani Khupe.
The MDC-T had previously represented a credible threat to the Mugabe regime, managing to lead in the first round of elections in 2008. But the death of former prime minister and party leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, in 2018 sparked hostilities between the three vice-presidents of a party whose history has often been the scene of violent power struggles.

THE MDC-T led by interim president Thokozani Khupe has rescheduled its extraordinary congress to 27 December.
The elective congress to choose a new president to replace the late founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai was scheduled to this Saturday at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC).
However, the event was cancelled due to sharp differences among the contesting candidates, Khupe, Douglas Mwonzora, Elias Mudzuri and Morgen Komichi.
Addressing the media Saturday afternoon, MDC-T acting spokesperson, Tapiwa Mashakada confirmed the embattled opposition party had resolved to postponed its congress to 27 December.
“Today (Saturday), we met pursuant to the decision we made yesterday (Friday) to postpone the congress. It has been agreed then that we fix a new date for the extraordinary congress,” said Mashakada.
